‘Alchemy’ is a newly completed Dutch Barge replica, fitted out to the highest standard by a professional cabinet maker. The hull was commissioned in 2013. Alchemy is currently moored at the beautiful and sought after Tewkesbury Marina and the mooring is available with the boat subject to interview.

 

Alchemy displays an innovative and unique design with many outstanding features that present the boat in a beautiful and thought provoking manner. These include a large collapsable wheel house, assisted by gas struts and a complete retractable roof in the form of a tambour. This is ideal for catching some sun whilst preparing breakfast on summer mornings as well as creating a stunning slatted effect in its closed position. Other features include sliding doors for space saving solutions and tambour units in the rear cabin to hide white goods.

 

Examples of fine cabinet making mixed with inspiring engineering, that are unique to Alchemy, can be seen throughout this build. These include a sunburst veneer pattern on the dining table and a complicated, compound curving wall that displays itself in both the bathroom and main living space. These features are balanced beautifully with a mix of soft textiles throughout. The main two timbers that have been selected for this build are English Walnut and Oak.

 

From Alchemy’s use of old snooker table slate for her kitchen worktops to old stained glass inlayed in her portholes, she is truly one of a kind!

Category D Replica Dutch barge.

Central heating powered by pressure jet boiler from ‘Bubble’, heating: 5 x finrad radiators (3 in saloon and 2 in master bedroom) that are discreetly concealed with radiator boxing. 1 heated towel rail in bathroom (plus underfloor heating in bathroom),1 colosseum radiator in wheelhouse and 1 colosseum radiator in aft cabin. Heating can be set on a timer and a thermostat allows for compete temperature control.

A 2.5kw wood burning multi fuel stove that is perfect to give extra heat without throwing out too much heat and having to open windows in order to have the fire lit!

Victron inverter charger.

4 x batteries 100 amp 20 hour leisure batteries, charged through the Victron inverter charger. Inverter charger charges batteries to provide 12V (DC). When under steam inverter charger draws power from batteries and inverts 12V into 230V (AC) and in turn charges the batteries continually whilst under steam.

A large calorifier that is heated by either the boiler, immersion heater, or from the 120hp Vetus engine whilst under steam.

All the major electric and plumbing solutions were carried out by professional and specialist marine company Loomtech: AC and DC wiring with 12V and 230V. Ring of mains socket using arctic blue cable spec.

LED spotlights throughout the boat, wired on different looms to allow for a good range in lighting choice.

Windlass at bow, anchor can be manually or electrically let down.

Bow thruster helps with tricky manoeuvres and has own battery in bow locker.

Camera on the bow with a screen on the helm to give enhanced vision when mooring/entering locks etc.

The aft decking is laid with permateak, a high quality synthetic decking material that looks great and doesn’t weather like teak.

Gas locker outside of wheelhouse, houses 2 large gas bottles for the oven.

In the galley: a Belfast sink, a gas standard size oven with jobs, grill and main oven and fridge included in sale.

In the aft cabin: a tumble dryer/washing machine and a freezer, hidden with beautiful tambour units.

The 3 water tanks are located under the bed and behind the headboard in master cabin, to save space.

The bathroom is tiled with travertine tiles and electrical underfloor heating has been laid in the bathroom for toasty feet in the colder months.

The large holding tank is located in the engine room and is emptied once a month with regular month via pump out.

 

Key notes for consideration: Alchemy was recently dry docked and the hull was blacked to a high standard in May 2017. Anodes still have a few years on them. A hull survey was carried out at the same time.
