Tewkesbury Marina
Boat Sales

How Does Our Brokerage Work?

The Brokerage:

All our boats are privately owned and we are not a sales organisation. Our job is to assist both the owner and purchaser through the sale, looking after the interests of both parties and ensuring the sale goes as smoothly as possible.

Our Service:

We offer a very comprehensive service which includes handling all aspects of the sale such as contracts, surveys, trials, secure client accounts for holding funds, checking for debts, checking ownership and producing bills of sale.
We are members of ABYA, the brokers association, and we operate under their strict code of practice, including a full disclosure policy for information relating to any boat.
These are all some of the basic steps along the road to a successful purchase!!

Offers:

We are pleased to allow you to view any of our boats and help with advice and information wherever we can. We can also call the boat owner if there are any questions that we cannot answer.
If you find the right boat, the first step is normally to make an offer, as most owners are often flexible on their asking price, however, it is not our place to influence your offer or what the owner may accept.
We will conduct any negotiations openly on your behalf.

Contracts:

Once a price is agreed and if you are happy to proceed, we will then ask you to sign a purchase contract, which is subject to a survey and a river trial (If you have not already had your trial). We would also ask for a deposit of 10% of the agreed price. This will be deposited into our Marina clients account (where it is secure and under our control) so that in the event of you not being satisfied with your survey or river trial, we can return it to you in full.

Surveys:

We strongly suggest that you have a survey. Although we can give you the benefit of our experience and whatever information is available, a survey confirms the condition of the boat and enables you to make an informed decision.
Our job as the broker is to try and avoid problems for our customers, and we feel that a survey goes a long way to ensuring that.

Costs:

It is important to note that you are responsible for survey fees and any lift out fees, whether you purchase the boat or not. We also recommend that you carry out your river trial before survey.

Surveyor:

If you have no particular surveyor in mind, we can supply you with a list from the surveyors association, YBDSA. We would then liase with them and organise dates and lift outs. An independent surveyor will look after your interests alone and the report will be your property.

Survey Report:

When you have seen the survey report and have discussed any issues with your surveyor, you will inform us of your decision whether to proceed or not. If you are not happy to proceed, we will accept your cancellation and refund your deposit in full.
Please note that in our experience, there are always some small faults, particularly on older and less expensive boats. However, if there are any substantial faults found and you would still like to purchase the boat, it may be possible to negotiate a reduction in price. We are here to help with advice and options if necessary.

Payments:

We are pleased to accept cards, tranfers, cheques and limited cash transactions for deposit payments. The final payment is by bank transfer. When the full purchase price is received in our clients account, we will be pleased to hand over the boat and help you in any way that we can.

Moorings:

We are pleased to offer berths for all our brokerage customers, if available.

Fees:

Any brokerage fees charged are the responsibility of the vendor and not the purchaser.

We are here to offer a professional service and advice for customers whether buying or selling.
Please feel free to ask for more details about how the brokerage may help you.
